Location

Buckinghamshire extends northeast from the boundary of Heathrow Airport for 40 miles as far as the world famous Silverstone Racing Circuit. Lying at the heart of the Oxford to Cambridge Arc, notable locations within the County include Pinewood Studios and the world-famous Spinal Injuries Unit of Stoke Mandeville Hospital www.spinal.org.uk. Buckinghamshire is divided into four contrasting Districts:

» Aylesbury Vale, the north of the County, is a predominantly rural area which is set to see its major town, Aylesbury, grow significantly as part of the Government's Growth Plans for the area.

» Chiltern District lies in the centre of the County and is set with the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a protected area of beech woodland. Its principal town, Amersham, is the world headquarters of GE Healthcare.

» South Bucks District lies closest to London, and a high proportion of its residents work in the Capital. It is noted for its high quality residential areas and is home to Pinewood Studios.

» Wycombe District includes the Thames at the historic town of Marlow, whilst its major urban centre High Wycombe has a notable industrial past as the centre of the UK furniture industry. Today it is a thriving centre with excellent connections to London and the Midlands via the M40.

The picturesque and historic market towns of Buckingham, Princes Risborough, Old Amersham and Beaconsfield add to the character of the County and contrast with Aylesbury, the County Town, and High Wycombe as the two main centres of economic activity.

Buckinghamshire is a great place to do business. The County has excellent communications not only into London with fast road connections through the A40 and A41, but also to the rest of the UK through the M1, M40 and M25.

Buckinghamshire Economic Partnership (BEP) www.bucks-ep.co.uk plays a key role in shaping the future economic and social development of the County. This ensures we have a balanced and sustainable place to live and work.

Our vision is to make Buckinghamshire one of the top ten places for doing business in Europe.

BEP brings together Buckinghamshire's stakeholders: companies, public sector agencies and community organisations to ensure the highest quality of decision making for the economic future of the County. Companies, whatever their size, are welcome to join in the work of the Partnership and help to shape the future of our County.
