Transport and in particular congestion is seen as a major issue for business and indeed residents in Bucks. We see a large proportion of out commuting (figures) and public transport is not always accessible for routes across the county. Rural areas are not well served by public transport networks, necessitating a high level of car usage and ownership.

Bucks is fortunate in having the award winning Chiltern Railways operating within the County, Arriva are the major bus company serving the county.

Bucks County Council have an active Planning and Transport department who are actively working to provide solutions and options for people who live, work and visit the area.

Cycle and bus lanes are increasingly more evident in the County, ensuring that the county does provide more and more for alternatives to using the car.


Major Roads – the M1, M40 and M4, all run through Buckinghamshire and merge with the M25.

Rail – the west coast mainline from London to Scotland has an inter-city station in nearby Milton Keynes. The southern part of the county is connected to the London Underground system.
Chiltern railways operate through the county to London Marylebone.

Airports – Buckinghamshire is well positioned for access to Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, East Midlands and Birmingham Airport, providing vital links to global markets.
